Psychology

Adria Toliver graduated from 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø in 2008 with a Psychology major and Women's Studies minor. She is originally from and currently lives in Dallas, Texas. After 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø she earned a MS and PhD from the University of Texas-Arlington in Industrial and Organizational (I-O) Psychology. She currently works as AT&T as a Senior Psychologist. For her, the best thing about attending 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø was the sense of empowerment it instilled in her and the sense that she can literally do anything she wants to do; she feels there is nothing she cannot accomplish. The second best thing is the life-long friendships she developed. Her favorite experience in the department was Dr. Coleman Brown's senior seminar course because it was a great culmination of everything she had learned, as well as preparation for her post-college life/career. She traveled abroad to Perth, Western Australia while she was at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø and her defining moment was when she overcame her fears and went rock climbing and rappelling. Also, while she was at 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø she worked on research in Dr. Hughes’ lab and presented several research papers at two of the Southeastern Psychological Association conferences. She currently is a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor at Kimball High School. In addition to working at AT&T, she is an adjunct faculty member at The Art Institute of Dallas and a lecturer at UT-Arlington. She tells people that when she was a freshman in high school, she did not imagine herself attending a "girl's school," but after learning about and attending 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, she fully believes in the power of and need for women's institutions. Her photo was taken at work.
